Dehydrated Marshmallow Pops - S'more and Peppermint

The flavor combinations will be endless, but we’ll be making both dehydrated s’mores and dehydrated peppermint sticks below.

How to Make Dehydrated Marshmallow Pops

Supplies

  • Marshmallows – dehydrated. You can get a more detailed explanation for dehydrating marshmallows here.
  • Cake Pop Sticks or bamboo skewers – I just purchased a kit from Amazon
  • Melting chocolates – chocolate chips, melting chocolate wafers, etc.
  • Graham crackers – crushed
  • Peppermint candies – crushed
  • Dehydrator
  • Cake Pop Wrappers (part of the kit above)
  • Kitchen torch, lighter, or open gas flame on stovetop

Directions:

Dehydrating Marshmallows

  1. Pierce marshmallows with cake pop
  2. Dehydrate at 125F / 52C for 6-10 hours for mini marshmallows and up to 24 hours for large marshmallows
  3. Cool for 10-15 minutes before testing. They are dry when they shatter easily in your mouth or when broken

Make Marshmallow Pops

  1. Dip marshmallow in the chocolate or other dip medium of your choice
  2. Roll in the topping of your choice
  3. Set to firm for fifteen minutes
  4. Wrap in cellophane and tie with twist tie or ribbon
  5. Store for two weeks

S’more Marshmallow Pop – use a kitchen torch, butane lighter or your gas flame on your stovetop, or even the wood-burning stove if you have one – to lightly char the outside of your dehydrated marshmallow. This gives the flavor of campfire s’mores. But it’s certainly okay to leave that step out. Dip in chocolate, then in graham cracker crumbs.

Marshmallow Pop Instructions - dip in chocolate, dip in topping, eat !

Peppermint Marshmallow Pops – Use white chocolate and crushed peppermint candies to create a hot cocoa stirring stick that is perfect for Christmas Eve hot cocoa bars. Here’s my favorite hot cocoa bulk recipe.

Other Flavor Combination Ideas

  • Nutella and nuts – these won’t firm up the way that melting chocolates will, but made the day of a party will work just fine.
  • Chocolate and pretzels
  • White chocolate and crushed graham cracker cereal or fruity loops
  • Chocolate and mini chocolate candies
  • Peanut butter and pretzels (you can thin the peanut butter with maple syrup or water)
  • White chocolate or darker chocolate with birthday cake sprinkles.

Frequently asked questions:

Can I make marshmallow pops with fresh marshmallows?

Yes, you can. Dehydrating makes them a completely unique experience, and they store longer. But if you don’t have a dehydrator, try any of these treats with fresh marshmallows.

How long can dehydrated marshmallow pops store?

Because dehydrated marshmallows need an airtight container to store for long-term, these will be good for just a couple of weeks at the most. But you can do them a few days ahead of any party or gathering, store them in an airtight container, and you’ll be fine!

Do I have to use the sticks?

No – simply roll your dehydrated marshmallow pieces into the chocolate and then into the topping of your choice.

I made the peppermint marshmallow sticks to sell at the Christmas tree farm next door. It was the first year selling hot chocolate so none of us were sure how many I should make. I made 50 and they sold out the first weekend! I’d call that a big time win. This year I will be making 100.
