How to Dried Apple Oatmeal

Oatmeal ingredients on a table.

Ingredients

This recipe is incredibly versatile. Use whatever dried fruit you like, leave out the pecans, add a little pumpkin powder, or whatever you’d like.

  • Dried apple shreds: Use whatever dehydrated apple you have. You might need to break down your cinnamon apple slices to make them easier to chew. Of course, you can use fresh apples, as well.
  • Milk: use whatever milk you prefer, such as oat, almond, goat, etc. Water can also be substituted.
  • Oatmeal: While this recipe uses rolled oats (old-fashioned oats), you can do a steel oats version in about ten minutes.

Darcy’s Tips

  • This is a microwave-friendly recipe, but if you’d like to do this on the stovetop, that’s fine. Just be careful to watch it more closely; it will take about twenty minutes to cook.
  • I like my oatmeal a little on the soupy side, so I often add a little more milk once cooked.
  • This sets up fast as it cools, so be sure to eat quickly.
  • Make a double or triple batch of this and save it in the fridge to reheat another day for a quick meal.

Great recipe for busy fall and winter mornings. Nice evening snack/dessert as well. Thanks Darcy! I need to check out your apple preserving ideas as well.

  2. Thank you. I have been looking for a homemade oatmeal that I can make ahead of time and either pre-measure all of the dry ingredients into individual bags so I don’t have to buy store bought instant packets that are loaded with sugar. I could store a large amount pre-made in a container but I’m not sure how much to scoop out for a single serving. I also like adding ground flaxseed to mine. I also use almond milk since I’m allergic to dairy. It all still tastes good!

    1. All together, this recipe is probably 1/2 Cup to scoop. But you can use as much as or as little as you want.
