Make your own vegetable powder capsules and learn to extend the usefulness of your dehydrated goods. Filling your own gelatin capsules is easy!!

How to Make Your Own Vegetable Powder Capsules

We all know that fresh is best, but sometimes you just need a boost, don't you?

    Equipment Needed

I use the Size 0 machine and capsules. You can go larger to 00 or 000 sizes or drop to the size 1 for a smaller size. If you go with a larger size, you can use fewer capsules to use the same amount of powder.

    • Capsule filling mechanism of your choice. I'm using the Size 0 LeadLife capsule filler in these examples. You can get them from HerbAffair or Ebay since Amazon no longer carries them. (affiliate link)
    • Gelatin Capsules Size 0. There are vegan options available.
    • Dehydrated Powder of your choice. I'm using a mixture of green powder, beet powder, and vegetable powder.

How to Fill Capsules with Powder

Creating your own vegetable powder capsules is easy! This step by step process shows you how you can fill your capsules with vegetable powder, green powder, fruit powder, or any combination you have. It allows you to take advantage of your dehydrated powders and put them to new use!

Step by Step grid instructions to fill a capsule machine

First, follow the manufacturer's instructions for using your particular machine. These instructions will be for the Size 0 Capsule filling machine that is widely available on Amazon. But you may choose to use a different kind of filler - but the general principle is the same.

    1. Separate capsule caps from capsule bottoms and place in two separate containers.
    2. Place the frame plate onto the body plate.
    3. Fill frame plate with 100 capsule bottoms.
    4. Use the palm of the hand to enclose open corner and shake both plates to drop capsule bottoms into holes.
    5. Remove frame plate and replace adjust any capsules as needed.
    6. Repeat the previous steps with Cap plate and frame plate and capsule tops.
    7. Replace the frame plate on the main plate with white powder block.
    8. Pour ½ cup of powder into white powder block and spread with spreader to fill capsules.
    9. Use tamper plate to press into capsules. Repeat the previous step if necessary.
    10. Remove frame plate from cap plate and replace it with the orange plate - making sure thumb indentions are facing up.
    11. Flip the two plates with the orange side down, and place on top of mainboard.
    12. Press down firmly on the cap plate to push capsules together.
    13. Remove cap plate and set aside.
    14. Remove orange plate, pull out capsules, and place in an airtight container. Use moisture absorbers if you'd like

    How much does this make?

The yield for this size capsule is approximately 7-8 capsules = 1 teaspoon of powder = ½ C fresh produce. This is an approximation as all produce is a different size and density, but basically, 1 tablespoon dehydrated powder = 8 capsules = 1 cup of fresh produce.

Ratio of fresh to capsule - fresh bunch of kale = 1 teaspoon powdered greens equals 7-8 capsules

What can you include in capsules?

You can include anything you'd like in any combination that you'd like.

    • Tumeric

    • Vegetable Powder

    • Ginger

    • Whey powder

    • Fruit Powder

    • Ginger

    • Cinnamon

    • Green Powder

    • Protein Powder

    • Garlic Powder

Just remember when using fruit powders, the carb count is the same as if you were eating fresh fruit.

    How long do capsules last?

The same as with dehydrated powders - up to a year. Remember to store in a cool, dark place in an airtight container. Moisture will cause the gelatin capsules to begin to degrade quickly, so keep away from moisture.

You can watch the entire process in this video. Press the Youtube arrow if the image isn't showing.

This is really great, I don’t know how to thank you. I have a very close family member who has Cancer. They don’t like veggies, at least this will give them some nutrition.
My whole family is going to benefit from these. I can’t swallow pills, so I do a drink with my own green powder and coconut water. 1 drink a day. I eat a lot of veggies especially greens.
